Awesome read. Ties into the Mindfulness stuff I have been reading about (outcome vs exploratory thinking).

Death by Spinning
Did the first 1 and a half hour spinning class in a long time today. Almost gave up about twice. Utterly knackered now. It all used to be so much easier

“Rather than design a program that you plug library functions into, you plug your...”
– Cocoa Fundamentals Guide This applies to just about any framework, I wish more developers would get that into their heads, rather than ignoring/fighting the framework and generating lots of busy-work.

Preserving Digital Archives →
jingc: The BBC’s Doomsday Project of 1986, intended to record the state of the nation for posterity, was recorded on two 12inch videodisks. By 2000 it was obsolete, and was rescued only thanks to a specialist team working with a sole surviving laser disk player. It’s sobering to realize that in just 14 years, a storage format can be so obsolete that there is only one device left that is...

More thoughts on eating...
So after I binged out on toast, I was thinking about eating even more food for a good 10 - 20 mins. Now I feel full. Need to monitor how long it takes me to feel full after eating. Also need distractions from thinking about food.

Late night eating...
…and by eating I mean binging. I need to change something here. Maybe eat more during the day perhaps. I’ll look into it tomorrow.

Visualizing Data
Read a couple of chapters of Ben Fry’s book. Fry’s approach to visualization seems opposed to Tufte’s approach. Having said that, I need to re-read Tufte’s work, because it has been years since I last read any of it. Started playing around with Processing. The UI/application feels pretty horrible imo. No doubt because its a Java application, and because I have been...

Sunday
Yoga in the morning (well when I woke up). Struggled with some Maths for a couple of hours. Some exercises on the balance ball and some more Yoga (lame work out). Reading about Information Visualization. Waiting for processing to download.

Yoga
Didn’t bother going to the gym today, and at the last minute decided to do some Yoga at home. Its always surprising how quickly Yoga makes you break into a sweat. The DVDs I have arent that great I dont think, but its a start. Will have to check out some classes at the gym. Also was surprised by just how relaxed I felt afterwards. More Yoga is on the cards.

Fun and Programming
There’s no doubt that Ruby is a great and fun programming language. Likewise there is no doubt in my mind that Rails is a great web framework that makes web programming as fun as it can be. BUT - and you knew there was a but - there is currently no escape from the limitations of the presentation side of web apps.  CSS, HTML, Browser limitations = FUN KILLERS.

Back to the Gym
Yes I finally went back to the gym today. Didn’t have my ipod (it wasn’t charged). I did barely anything, just 15 mins on the crosstrainer and 15 mins on the step machine (on a low setting: 7). And it all was so much EFFORT. I need to get back into all of this.

It’s Obama Day and I’m still feeling incredibly lazy. The irritating cough is still present. I am not getting much reading or coding done. And I am struggling to get my ass to the gym. Not good….
